  1. The second caption made my tail wag.

In the fifth caption, I hope it’s not too pedantic, but is the phrase not ‘to the manner born’?

    1. Well, technically yes, but the phrase ‘to the manor born’ has come to mean specifically ‘to the mnanner born’ to aristocratic habits, after the Penelope Keith sitcom from a few… errr… decades ago. I think it has anyway.

  2. Yes, quite a few decades ago, but I am of that vintage too and remember it well. I love this final photo and caption. It genuinely puzzles me as to why I would choose to be the Honourable Charles rather than Larry, but it’s far too late for me to change the way I am now. As Charles, I would remain utterly besotted by my gorgeous bride – all the more so the more cruelly she treated me. I guess some of us are just made that way, and it’s best we humbly accept it.

    1. Thank you, tom.

Of course, not only does he have to scrub the floors dressed as a chambermaid; he does it under the disapproving eyes of his ancestors whose portraints line the walls: military men, most of them, with an occasional judge or statesman among them. That said, close examination of the portraits of some of his female ancestors might detect just the hint of an amused smile… but that’s probably just a trick of the light. Anyway, he has little time to look up.
