True enough, but she’s being modest and modesty is a virtue. As a governess, she’s really big on encouraging virtue. And also on dealing firmly with vice. I expect her beloved husband will discover that soon enough, the lucky dog.

That term is, I think, something of an oxymoron. Like “mild beating” or “gentle correction” perhaps? Or “feminine pity”?
